1 — Understand your objectives
I learn about your business, competitive strengths and objectives in Norway. We identify the questions that matter to your investment decision and agree an approach that fits your internal review process.
2 — Define the assignment
I prepare a proposal setting out scope, deliverables, timetable and fees. Decision points are agreed at the outset and aligned with your internal approval process. Clearly defined stages, each with a decision on whether to proceed, help control budgets and avoid long-term commitments beyond the agreed stage.
3 — Assess the opportunity
I carry out research and analysis using Norwegian business knowledge and relevant industry networks. Findings are supported by clear evidence, with assumptions and unresolved questions explained.
4 — Recommend a direction
I present the business assessment and recommendations. Where relevant, I compare establishment with acquisition in terms of market access, investment, time to revenue and execution requirements.
I provide decision materials structured for internal approval. Clear go/no-go points at the end of each stage help management understand risk, progress and future investment and contractual commitments.
5 — Drive execution
For establishment, I support customer and partner development, business planning and local execution. For acquisitions, I support target selection and approaches, valuation, due diligence coordination and negotiations.
I manage overall progress and coordinate the involvement of specialists where needed.
6 — Support the transition to operations
I remain available during the initial operating period or post-acquisition transition. Working with your team and Norwegian management, I help establish priorities, reporting, responsibilities and follow-up.
Communication and confidentiality
I provide regular progress updates and clear recommendations, with meetings scheduled around time differences. Confidentiality arrangements and approaches to external companies are agreed with you at the start.
Working languages are English and Norwegian. Where Japanese interpretation or translation is needed, arrangements are discussed before the assignment begins.
Legal, tax, accounting and other specialist work is undertaken by the relevant professionals. I coordinate their contributions around the project’s commercial objectives.
Cooperation between the Norwegian business and Japanese headquarters
I help Japanese owners and Norwegian management establish a shared understanding of objectives, responsibilities and authority. We clarify how decisions will be made, what should be reported and how questions or challenges should be escalated to headquarters. I also explain Norwegian working practices and expectations around delegation, involvement and autonomy.
During establishment, I coordinate practical tasks and support from local specialists. We agree who does what, which decisions require your approval and how progress will be monitored. Interpretation and translation needs are agreed in advance.
Board Advisory & Interim Management
We can work together on a defined project, through ongoing advice or under an interim management assignment. I can also serve on the board of the Norwegian subsidiary. The role, responsibilities, authority and reporting arrangements are agreed before work begins.
Independent board member of the Norwegian subsidiary
I can serve as an independent board member of the Norwegian subsidiary, representing the Japanese owners' interests and contributing local market knowledge, strategic judgement and oversight. I help ensure that the owners' objectives are understood and reflected in the board's work on the company's long-term development.
Strategic adviser to Norwegian management
I can act as a strategic adviser to Norwegian management and support effective reporting and communication with headquarters in Japan. We establish clear routines for reporting, meetings and decisions so that headquarters receives relevant information on time and Norwegian management has clear expectations and priorities to work towards.
Interim management support
During establishment, a change of ownership or other transition periods, I can take on an interim management role with an agreed mandate. I oversee progress, finances and organisation and help ensure an orderly handover to permanent management.
